Backwater Valve

Every 3-4 months the city uses Vactor trucks to clean the sewer lines of roots and debris.  Depending on which manhole they use, we usually end up with air bubbling out of the toilets and sometimes water blasting out of the bowl. The sanitation crew said all they could do is give us a towel and I need to install a backwater valve at my expense. None of my neighbors have problems...

Vactor Truck - Photo LA Sanitation

Hired Mr. Speedy Plumbing and they came out and sent a camera down the main house line to find the right location for the valve.

Digging up the ground.

Backwater Valve and additional Cleanout.

Installed, basically just a flap that allows our waste to go out and prevent anything like a blast of air or worst case a sewer overflow to come back in.

They are not exactly sure why only our house has the issue since the older houses most likely don't have this valve installed. Could be that we have a larger and root free drain pipe and the air is going to take the path of least resistance. When I called the city and talked to the crew they are aware of this affecting some homes but the percentage is low. We will see in a couple of month if this works.

Maui Trip 2014 Part 2 (Dec 25 - Jan1)

Kapalua Bay

Kapalua Bay - Snorkeling - waves were a little rough.

Napili Bay - Snorkeling  - waves were rough and got windy.

Puunoa Beach (Baby Beach)
Reef 100 yards out creates a natural barrier from the waves, making it a calm lagoon.
No wave makes it ideal for kids and snorkelers.

We rented prescription masks which I recently learned existed.

Fish!!!
A little windy so it was not as clear as it could be.

Spam musubi after snorkeling.

Much less crowded and relaxing than the big resorts south of Black Rock.

Hawaiian Boku-chan on the beach.

Snorkling in front of the resort.
Sunset behind the island of Lanai.

Star Mode on the Canon G7X.
